Many of these cars are lovingly maintained by their owners, and they can be seen driving around town or at car shows. I like to see them in excellent condition, as they are smart looking, but I'd never own one. Not because of what Pierre says, I worked on a few.
Very helpful tutorial.
Your an idiot
That's when Mercedes was a good car
R107 just what I wanted to hear. Thanks Pierre!
My 1988 Mitsubishi l200 2.0 Diesel truck is still alive and kicking 36 years later.
OR! You could do what I did on my 606 and delete the vacuum pump 😁. Just need to install a vacuum reservoir, an electric pump, a vacuum switch, and do the plumbing. Works great, just make sure you don't have vacuum leaks. I used a GM part from a turbo vehicle. I posted it on the forums somewhere and got a fair amount of hate for it 🤣
Is 5000 cst the more aggressive engagement fluid, or is that normal viscosity for the fan clutch?
My 1993 W124 has the 722 auto transmission and it has a problem. It upshifts at around 2000rpm, but manually shifting it works fine, except it won't go from 1st to 2nd, and the shifter doesn't separate 1st & 2nd so I can't manually shift it between those gears. Both 1st & 2nd gears work, I can get into 2nd while moving slowly, or 1st by accelerating from a dead stop. When I manually shift the car into 3rd it goes into 3rd, and same with 4th (D). Could it be the bowden cable or something else?
HELLO MATE I NEED THE COMPLET SUN ROOF W126 500SE CAN YOU HELP ME PLS,
Hay buddy I like your videos, and want to ask you about the w124 300 D 1991 I’m thinking of purchasing, I know you like the w123, your thoughts would be greatly appreciated thanks 😊
Hi buddy is the w124 with a 300D good or a lemon thanks
Yeah I agree
I get it, its a long journey for restorers myself included and big respect for your insights!
I bought a 62 W112 senior year HS in 74 for $900. It needed a few repairs which were a bit expensive like air bags and leveling valve. I owned it for close to 30 years. Had to sell due to storage issues. Absolutely loved that car. Now I’m retired I want to get a 280SE 3.5 or 4.5 for a semi daily driver.
How about loping or surging only when hot? And not when in gear.. I know that's not much information but I'm trying to track this down.
Got my first Mercedes with SLS. 1996 C250 wagon turbo diesel. Just ordered fluid and filter from Mercedes and I'm going to do a system flush.
I have a 190E 2.3-16, it has: Refurbed Metering Head, fuel distributor, brand new ICV and a tested EHA, so why would it stall on deceleration? Its beating me. I have brand new dual fuel pumps and fuel accumulator to fit. Any info would be greatly appreciated :)

Great video as always. I daily drive 80s diesel all the time. Love them!
Sometimes one has to come to a conclusion and and have their clients agree to a contract that there are difficulties as you describe that come up and notifying the client when these things occur and get their consent before carrying out your adjustments and subletting gages and such. Not to mention the time the vehicle is consuming in your shop. Limiting liability for you and enhancing your relationships and clients expectations makes for a happy technician. Wishing you well and really appreciate your insights and expertise thanks!
Hi Pierre I’m thinking of getting a 1991 300D w124, I’m wondering what’s your thoughts on this one please thanks buddy 😊

I usually stick with Castrol Magnatec 10w-40. Most of my cars have been old-ish and it's always been the best of the ones I've tried in terms of how the engines behave, drive and sound... My Merc is W124 89' 200E and I leave in Crete, Greece (temp 10°-45°C)
Just to clarify when you turn the adjustment screw on the EHA you turn it clockwise?
I replaced this recently on my W126..definitely had the odor of gas in my cabin...& a major loss of gas mileage...it was leaking everywhere...& yep, it was spendy af to buy, but critical. Easy enough to replace & I was back on the road enjoying my ride.
It would be great to see you dial one of these things in. At least you’re not selling a special tool or access to members only instructions. You can buy these for just over $200. I have two that work perfectly. The original was replaced for the reasons you mentioned, but there was nothing wrong with it. Ultimately you should check your pressures before replacing parts. Testing will save you money and you get a better understanding of how it works.
I guess I’m glad to hear no good or bad for the 1982 380 SL. Timing chain was redone.
Nice video ! You should do one on adjusting the fuel pressure regulators and the outcome of it on Ke-Jetronic.
What rpm should a m103 300se idle at in gear? Is just a tick over 500rpm too low in D? In N or Park it goes up to 650-700rpm.
Best classic Mercedes information out there !
We really appreciate you @svsalserenity4375 for viewing our videos and leaving a comment. I tried to read as many as I can and take your responses for consideration on future videos. Thomas Polk RUclips Creator.
I have worked on these cars since they were new and I use your videos to refresh my mind . I still love these old girls . I work for Mercedes and every thing after around 92 has given me pause .
Sooo many people had M102 and M103 drivability issues that were misdiagnosed because the average repair shops had no idea what the EHA was…
Had a stumble on acceleration, and smelled fuel from the engine compartment... Pulled the air cleaner and found fuel around the EHA. Swapped it with the new O-Rings, and all issues disappeared! To bad the old ones are not rebuildable...
Wow I is first ! Watching in Sweden.
I’ve worked on heavy equipment and doing one of these was a breeze for dads 380sl. The walking away is best advise he gave on working on any gearbox haha
My 0.2 resistor was completely fried (w124). I just skipped it, connecting the wires so that it works full speed. I find it actually works fine since I'm at Greece (95-105° F at summer). Is that a "don't do"? Also the fun never comes on when the AC is off, even when the engine overheats.... That really boggles me because if I unplug the coolant temperature sensor the fun comes on full speed. I've just changed the sensor as well with no difference. W124 89' 200E. Thank you sooo much for all of your help, and wish you all the best!!!
My dream is to own a Mercedes! I will buy my first car, Mercedes. This channel is very inspiring. Thanks
Are you located on the treasure coast of florida?
Just rebuilt my 84 300d,Cleaned, installed new comp,R4,drier,exp,Put oil and r134 ir started clacking and throwing a fit ,2nd time, have oil injection tool, what is Procedure after vacuumed and
Hi been following you for years need to do this job any idea where I can buy the locking pin thanks
1) I would love to hear / read interviews with retiring senior engineers who had been with the company in the good old days, and were there for the painful changes in the late 80's to mid 90's. Probably was no fun to watch all your hard work and values going down the drain. (Documentary anyone? -- Might already exist, albeit in German..) 2) I want to know why Mercedes felt they needed to change: Why was the cheaper (but lower quality) Lexus a serious competition issue? I mean sure, Mercedes would lose a lot of market share. Of course. But could they have downsized and survived on lower sales as the price for keeping their engineering ethic? Or would their sales really have gone to complete zero?
Do the M110 caveats apply to the 185 hp Euro spec engines as well, or just the catalyzed low-compression US ones? I'm assuming just the US ones, since the Euro ones didn't have all the emissions stuff.
In this case, would the w202 be considered a classic or modern?
Social media people know about older cars and information and maintance videos made people willingness to take on older cars.
I recently bought 2 new Bosch fuel pumps for a 126 V8 SEL from a very reputable supplier here in the UK...lasted 2 days or 30 miles. QR code scan didn't work either. Now running genuine OE used ones from my stock of used parts. Just done a Germany round trip with not one problem...be very careful boys and girls. Much love to the channel
So this became a political rant? Stupid
I just bought my wife a 1982 GD 300 manual. She told me she wants an automatic 🤯…. Do you have any suggestions as to what transmission I should outsource?
Just came across a pretty cheap 1973 450 slc it needs work body wise too somewhat. I don’t know what to expect, some of the vintage Mercedes I am new to, appreciate the info! This helped out in what to avoid generally
What did he say abt 350 SD / SDL at the end of the video ? I can not understand bcause of the train.
Addendum: The guys driving these car prices have done the same to watches and, insanely, to vintage wine. They will have a special place in the house where they DISPLAY their wine. Not a proper cellar, but a showplace. They buy the wine to look at, not drink; they buy their cars to show off, not drive. They don't care if the watches work properly, so long as they look good and, ideally, nobody else has one just like it. Conspicuous consumption beyond steroids!!
Splendid rant! I own and will never sell 3 older cars, 2 330 Ferraris (a GTC and a 2+2 with a one-off body) and a 420 SEL with quite a few mods (but very stock looking). I've had the Ferraris for about 40 years, from the days when they were pricey but not stupidly expensive, and I'm working on 20 years with the Benz. I once owned and restored a lightweight Gullwing (I'm a retired dealer), and it brought a world-record price when I sold it (privately, not at an auction) in 2012; last yer it sold (again, privately) for over 4 times the price I got. These prices have and will continue to keep normal enthusiasts out fo the market, even well-heeled ones. I used to think it was a bubble, but the bubble keeps expanding and only the truly goofy cars ever seem to decline in value ($24,000 Amphicars, for example). I no longer understand what drives this thing, but I'm not taking part! Keep up the good work.
It's interesting about what you said about electronic ignition but how do you keep these older cars going, when you cannot get these mechanical points in your country??? To acquire from outside your country can cost 30 times more, if you can get it.
